TeachingThe Tūhoe world view is the frame of reference for our teaching programmes at Te Pū Wānanga o Anamata. Graduates will be competent and confident educational practitioners who can contribute to the emotional, spiritual and intellectual growth of children, irrespective of their status, culture or abilities. They will be equipped to address the inequities faced in education, particularly by Māori children, and join the challenge to provide appropriate and effective learning. Their knowledge of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga ō Tūhoe will enable them to operate and contribute positively both to the Māori-medium and mainstream school environment. Te Pū Wānanga o Anamata is committed to maintaining a uniquely Tūhoe – Māori world view by providing teachers of excellence in the language, who can also intellectually engage their pupils in dialogue regarding all things Māori in the context of the past, present and future world. Tohu Ako Paetahi: Mā Te Reo has been designed specifically to contribute to effective learning environments in a Tūhoe context, and in using whakapapa, whānaungatanga, Tūhoetanga, te reo me ona tikanga. Anamata in offering this degree programme, is taking ownership of the challenge by producing quality teachers who use the medium of te reo Māori as the medium of instruction and incorporate cultural experience or tikanga-a-iwi into the language learning context. Graduates of the Teacher Aide Certificate have the opportunity to progress into the degree or start their career as Teacher Aides in kaupapa Māori school.
