By choosing this programme pathway you will be exposed to Te Reo Māori, Tikanga, History, Mōteatea, and academic skills.
Successful completion also counts towards our degree programmes as a pre-requisite for entry into both Te Tohu o Te Reo Māori and Tohu Ako Paetahi: Mā Te Reo Māori. The completion of this diploma is also recommended and can provide invaluable insight into Te Ao Māori for students looking at enrolling in our Social Service & Health Programmes.

Course CONTENT
Te Reo Māori
This is a foundation paper for beginners with an emphasis on spoken Te Reo Māori using the Tūhoe dialect.
Mōteatea
Students will investigate and discover the history of selected traditional and contemporary Mātaatua laments. You will learn a body of songs for practical use on the marae and in the community.
Tūrangawaewae
This course will examine Tūhoe iwi identity and its link to whakapapa, marae, and waka.
Tū Rangatira
Students develop an understanding of traditional and contemporary Māori visual art practices and its associated history to Te Ao Māori.
